Violas Over $20,000

Willem vander Syde, Amsterdam, 1698, 16 1/4". This fine old viola is in a most extraordinary condition with almost no cracks, amazing for an instrument that is over 300 years old! The tone is clear and responsive and very full with a unique fluidity.
Orsolo Gotti, Pieve de Cento, c. 1915, 16 1/2".
Hyacinthus (Giacinto) Bertolazzi, Milan, 1946, 15 13/16". Bertolazzi (1910-1956) made instruments both on the classics (Guarneri, Amati, etc.) as well as his own personal model such as this one. This viola is a comfortable size with a big, warm tone.
Chardon Pere e Fils, Paris, 1910. 16 1/2" The Chardon family were among the most important makers and dealers in Paris. Father Georges studied with Georges Chanot before opening his own shop in 1872. This viola is in fine condition and has a warm, full tone with great character and pleasing depth.

Carlos Funes Vitanza, San Francisco, 1994, 16 1/2" Carlos Funes is a Bay Area maker who studied at the prestigious Cremona school with Bergonzi and Scolari and had a shop there for a period of time. This viola shows the influence of his masters with all the craftsmanship and elegance of the Cremona school. The tone is full and rich.
John Harrison, Redding, CA, 1999, 15 3/4". This viola shows superb and elegant workmanship. Because of its size, it is very comfortable to play and has an excellent tone.
John Paul Lucas, Salt Lake City, 1997, 16 1/4". Mr. Lucas teaches at the violin making school in Salt Lake City. This is a viola well suited to a professional orchestra violist or soloist.
Martin Erician, Piacenza, 1960, 16 1/8".
Bruno Dreux, Orleans, 1992. 16 1/8" This beautiful viola has a full, broad and dark tone, with a clear, nimble response even in the highest registers.

Landrian, France, 16 1/8".
Daniel Delfour, Toulouse, 2003, 16 1/8". We have been offering the Delfour instruments for many years with great success. This beautiful viola has a clear, warm tone.
Francis Kuttner, Cremona, 1978, 16 1/8" An early work of this important contemporary maker, made while he was studying in Cremona.
Matthieu Bessling, Amsterdam, 1981. 16 1/2" Bessling is one of the most important makers in Northern Europe. Over the years we have sold several of his instruments and they always have excellent tonal qualities.
Herman Konig, New York, 1864, 16 3/8". Born in Schoneck, Germany, Konig trained in important European workshops before immigrating to new York in 1857. This instrument is an excellent reproduction of the work of Maggini.
Luigi Villa, Milan, 16 1/2".
Amedeo Berganton, Turin, 1988, 16 1/2".
Lyon & Healy, Chicago, made in Mirecourt, 1913, 15 7/8". In the early 20th Century, Lyon & Healy were the largest music retailers in the country. They were able to acquire the very best work from the major European workshops and this fine viola is an excellent example. Comfortable size and excellent tone.

labeled "Silva Polaxtri," school of Sderci. 16 1/8" We are unfamiliar with the "Silva Polaxtri" name, but this viola shares many similarities with the work of Ignio Sderci of Florence.
