Auguste Delivet

Like so many French makers, Delivet apprenticed in Mirecourt. After working there with Victor Rambaux, he moved to Paris working with H.C.Silvestre. He opened his own shop in Paris in 1892. His work was highly regarded and he won numerous gold medals in major exhibitions. In 1918 he emigrated to Canada working in Toronto and Montreal. This violin has a nice brilliant and responsive tone.

Charles Buthod

Léon Mougenot

The Mougenot family of violin makers goes back to the 17th century. Léon worked with E.Laurent in Brussels, Blanchard in Lyon and W.E.Hill and Sons in London before establishing his own shop in Mirecourt in 1899. His work has always been highly respected for his very fine workmanship.

Meyers-Halverson

Anders Halverson emigrated from Sweden to Chicago in 1924 to work for Lewis & Son, then moved to Nashville, Michigan two years later. He established a shop with William Meyers which became popular with musicians across the Midwest.

Raymond Melanson

Ray Melanson is one of the most well known of American makers. After working with Hans Nebel, he attended the Salt Lake City violin making school. He taught violin making at the North Bennet St School in Boston. Over the years he has won numerous awards and medals. This beautiful cello has a big resonant sound and is easy to play.

Jean Laurent Clément

One of the premiere Parisian luthiers and experts of his generation, Clement established his shop in Paris in 1810 and stayed in business for nearly 40 years. Among his employees were a young Georges Chanot, and Thomassin. Based mostly on the model of the great Lupot, Clement won medals at the Paris Exhibitions of 1823 and 1827. This violin is a characteristic example of his work, drawing a sumptuous sound, well balanced across all strings. It is accompanied by a Rampal certificate.

Andrea Varazzani has become one of the most respected makers in Cremona. Born in Naples, Andrea graduated from the violin making school in Cremona twenty years ago setting up his own workshop in 2006. We have just received this beautiful cello, modeled after Andrea Amati.
