Raymond Melanson

Ray Melanson is one of the most well known of American makers. After working with Hans Nebel, he attended the Salt Lake City violin making school. He taught violin making at the North Bennet St School in Boston. Over the years he has won numerous awards and medals. This beautiful cello has a big resonant sound and is easy to play.

Born in 1841, Jean Baptiste Coiln studied with his father in Mirtecourt before establishing his own workshop. He also worked for makers in Paris as well as Mirecourt. He made excellent quality in the style of Collin-Mezin as well J.B.Vuillaume.

Robert Glier

Robert Glier was born and trained in Markneukirchen, moving to Cincinnati in 1885. He first worked for Wurlitzer before establishing his own successful shop.

Charles Buthod

Buthod was one of many gifted makers who worked for Vuillaume before joining Husson in Mirecourt forming a large and successful workshop. This is a very fine violin and is in superb condition.

Auguste Delivet

Like so many French makers, Delivet apprenticed in Mirecourt. After working there with Victor Rambaux, he moved to Paris working with H.C.Silvestre. He opened his own shop in Paris in 1892. His work was highly regarded and he won numerous gold medals in major exhibitions. In 1918 he emigrated to Canada working in Toronto and Montreal. This violin has a nice brilliant and responsive tone.

Scrollavezza & Zanre Workshop

Elise Scrollavezza and Andrea Zanre create fine instruments in their workshop as well as teaching in the violin making school founded by Elisa's father Renato. This fine cello was made under their direction. The sound is refined with a big lower end.

Gary Vessel

Gary grew up in the Bay Area and with the help of Boyd Poulson, went to the Violin Making School of America, enrolling at the young age of 17. He then went to Germany to perfect his skills working with a number of makers, returning in 1990. After working with Rafael Carrabba in Seattle, he opened his own shop in Salt Lake. He is highly respected for his excellent work. This would be a great choice for ensemble playing.

Ernst Heinrich Roth

The Ernst Heinrich Roth workshop may be one of the most famous in German violin making. It was established first in Markneukirchen and then in the early 1950s in Bubenreuth, West Germany. This is an exceptionally beautiful example of their best work with an especially nice golden varnish. It has a crisp upper register and a deep lower end.
