SF SYMPHONY CHAMBER MUSIC: MOTION & MYSTICISM
Event Date: 12/1/2019 2:00 PM

Explore a collection of chamber works filled with motion and mysticism. A highlight from American composer Robert Muczynski’s relatively small but wondrous body of work, the Fantasy Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano is full of superb craftsmanship and individualistic expressiveness that defies trends. A hybrid of Classicism and Romanticism, his music reveals an emotional depth, dark, moody lyricism, and an exhilarating rhythmic drive. The program opens at a sprint with Ravel’s high-powered Duo Sonata for Violin and Cello, followed by Romantic composer and double bass master Giovanni Bottesini’s intensely dramatic Concerto for Two Basses—a demanding, virtuosic hallmark of the instrument’s repertoire.
